Public Offices document.
Minutes (3), Enclosures (untranscribed) (1).
Smith forwards to Labouchere a letter from “the Deputy Governor of this Company to the
Earl of Clarendon.”
The minutes express the Colonial Office’s hesitation to “put by” the letter and they opt to await a reply containing more
information.
The file contains two letters, one from Griffin to Douglas, the other from Douglas to Stevens, both regarding an attack on the British settlement by a party of Americans on San Juan Island.
By Mr Ellice's desire I send you a copy of a letter from the
Deputy Governor of this Company to the Earl of Clarendon dated Hudson's
Bay House 24th July 1855.
I have the honour to be Sir,
Your most obedient Servant
W.G. Smith Secy
