In consequence of my noticing the appointment of Mr David Cameron to the office of Chief Justice of Vancouvers Island, I have addressed a letter to the Parties of that Settlement who brought that Gentleman's name under your notice.
A copy of that letter I take leave to enclose to you; shd?.

The Letters referred to in the enclosure are in circulation. With whom resting I am unable to say. I annex the Registry account of them, for the purpose of identification.
You will observe from our Letter to Mr Colville [Colvile] of the 28 July/54 that An enquiry into the fitness of Mr Cameron for the Judicial officeManuscript image was not neglected by this office—that the enquiry was ansd by the H.B.Co on the 3rd Augt/54—that the Governor was also written to on the same point on the 20th of the same month—that he ansd the S. of States desph on the 11 Decr/54—whose desph, though not answered, I assume has been considered satisfactory inasmuch as Mr Cameron has been confirmed in the Office of Chief Justice by Mr Laboucheres desph of the 26 April last.
