satisfactionthat the Colonial Office approved of his decision not to
interferewith the manhunt for accused murderers as requested by the Commander of the US Steamer Massachusetts but to
embracethe
provisions of the Extradition Treatyinstead.

1. I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatches
Nos 2 and 3 of the 7th and 15th of January last, and observe with
much satisfaction that you approve of the course which I adopted in
respect to the application from the Commander of the United States
Steamer "Massachusetts," for assistance in arresting the Indianswho
