1. I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your Despatches Nos 2 and 3 of the 7th and 15th of January last, and observe with much satisfaction that you approve of the course which I adopted in respect to the application from the Commander of the United States Steamer "Massachusetts," for assistance in arresting the IndianswhoManuscript image who had murdered an American Citizen.
2. I feel no less gratified and highly appreciate the Kind notice, bestowed upon the account which I transmitted, of the Indian population of Vancouver's Island. .mar* In 11582.
