Minutes (2), Other documents (1).
Osborne writes on behalf of the Admiralty to report that the “Satellite” has “probably” reached Vancouver Island and that “another Vessel is on her way there.” But Osborne cannot relay the exact location of the “Satellite.” This info is in response to concern over “hostile movements of the Northern Indians.”
The minutes decide to “apprize” the HBC of Osborne’s update.
Having laid before my Lords Commissioners of the Admiralty your
letter of the 10th Instant, with its enclosures from the Governor of
Vancouver's Island relative to the hostile movements of the Northern Indians, and conveying the request
of Mr Secretary Labouchere to be
informed what Naval Force is stationed in the vicinity of the Island and
at what point stationed; I am commanded by theirLordships
Lordships to acquaint
you that the Satellite has probably reached Vancouvers Island by this
time and that another Vessel is on her way there, but my Lords cannot
possibly say in what part of Vancouvers Island the Satellite may be.
