I am directed by the Secretary of State for War to transmit to you,
for the information of
Sir Edward Bulwer Lytton, the enclosed copy of
a letter from
Lieutenant Colonel Hawkins, Her Majesty's Commissioner
for defining our North Western Boundary in North America, in which he
suggests that the Land, Buildings &c, purchased in
Vancouver's Island
for the use of the Surveying Party under his command, should
eventually
be transferred to the Colonial Government at a valuation,
instead of being disposed of to private parties.
