Hamilton forwards Newcastle a sample of the paper that was sent to Douglas. Other documents included in the file indicate that the paper was sent to him to use for despatches, as the Colonial Office felt much inconvenience as the result of his continuing to use paper of a size different from that which is ordinarily employed. The Colonial Office requests that Douglas pay for the paper without delay.

I am directed by the Lords Commissoners of Her Majesty's Treasury to transmit herewith for the information of the Duke of Newcastle with reference to Mr Elliot's letter of 18th January last—the enclosed copy of a letter dated 28th January from the Comptroller of the Stationery Office, with a specimen sheet of the Paper furnished to the Governor of Vancouvers Island.
