Sargeaunt to Elliot (Assistant Under-Secretary)
21 December 1864
Sir,
Referring to Mr Julyan's letter of the 8th ultimo I have to state for the information of Mr Secretary Cardwell, that it appears that the "John Stephenson" arrived at Victoria, Vancouver Island, on the 25th Septr last, & had discharged nearly all her cargo on the 19th of October, but the Crown Agents have no knowledge of the condition in which the Machinery taken out by that Vessel reached its destination.
I have to add that the Admiralty Transport Board shipped a large quantity of Government Stores by this Vessel.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient servant,
W.C. Sargeaunt
