With reference to your letter of the 19th ultimo we have the honor to inform you that, immediately upon its receipt, we issued to the comptroller of the Stationery Office the necessary instructions for printing 300 Copies of Mr Pemberton's report on the survey of the Districts of Nanaimo and the Cowichan valley in Vancouvers Island.
2. We have received from the Stationery Office 100 Copies of theseManuscript imagethese reports, of which we enclose 50 for use in the Colonial Office;
Sent to CO 31 Oct.
the remaining 50 being retained for gratuitous distribution through this office. Arrangements have been made by the Comptroller of the Stationery Office for the sale of the other 200 Copies.
3. In preparing these reports for the press we thought it advisable to omit two or three passages from the report of Mr Wells in which he suggests the reservation of certain Land for Crown purposes.

I annex a copy of the Report but the Lithographs have not yet been received from the War office where they are being prepared.

I think that it will be enough to acknowledge the receipt, & to state that the printed copy of these Reports appears well calculated to fulfill the object for which it was ordered. (They render us constantly so much [more?] important services, that it would hardly be appropriate to thank them for this.)
