Offices of the Crown Agents for the Colonies,
Spring Gardens, London, S.W.
20 July 1870
Sir,
With reference to your letter of the 18th inst authorizing the issue of half Salary at £75 per annum from the 10th May to the 30th June ultimo to Mr G. Williams of British Columbia, I have to state that the Crown Agents were instructed by the local Government, by a letter dated 13th May last, to pay Mr Williams for 6 months to the 10th November next at the rate of £8.4.11 1/2 per month, and that they have already paid him two months to the 10th instant.
Qy ought they to have paid it without the Sec of States authority?
Under the circumstances the Crown Agents request to be furnished with the Earl of Kimberley's instructions for their future guidance in this matter.
I have the honor to be,
Sir,
Your most obedient Servant,
P.G. Julyan
